Exposure Systems
Short answer (≤75 words)
/exposure/ is the editorial spine of Private Pierce. It studies where private facts cross from a person's life into systems that can act on them — public records, commercial data, financial rails, regulatory reporting, retrieval systems, and AI summaries. It frames privacy as a system problem, not a secrecy problem. It links every other silo back to the 9-verb framework.
Exposure systems, not secrecy
The site uses the word “exposure” deliberately. Privacy is sometimes treated as a binary — secret or public. That framing breaks under operational scrutiny.
A fact about a person or business has more states than secret/public:
- It may be visible to a regulator but not the public.
- It may be searchable by name but not by address.
- It may be indexable by an AI retrieval system but not by a search engine.
- It may be reusable in bulk via a paid feed.
- It may be actionable by a marketer, a journalist, a competitor, a litigant, or a stalker.
- It may be verified by a financial rail before any transaction settles.
- It may be priced into insurance, credit, or underwriting.
- It may be constrained by jurisdictional rules (e.g. SIM registration, residency reporting).
- It may be optimized within the law by a private operator who understands the rules.
Privacy with compliance means knowing which state a given fact is in and what to do about it. Secrecy theatre means pretending facts can be erased.

Frequently asked questions
Is exposure the same as being 'public'?
No. A fact can be visible to a regulator but not searchable by the public, or indexable by AI but not priced into insurance — see the nine verbs at /exposure/exposure-verbs/.
What is privacy with compliance vs secrecy theatre?
Compliance privacy maps lawful access (BOI, KYC, subpoenas). Secrecy theatre pretends records can be erased. This silo documents both without recommending evasion.
Where do I start reducing search-engine exposure?
/exposure/hard-to-google/ covers five lawful mechanisms: ACP, broker opt-outs, search removal, DMCA, and state erasure rights.
How does this silo relate to /business/?
Business documents registry and UCC exposure; /exposure/ frames the verbs and editorial guides that interpret those matrices.
Is the five-verb framework still valid?
Yes — preserved at /privacy-exposure/visible-searchable-indexable-reusable-actionable-framework/. v0.2 extended to nine verbs for financial and KYC surfaces.
