Field definitions
- Merger fee
- The state charge to file articles, a certificate or a statement of merger where an LLC is a party. The headline amount is the base filing fee. Conditional charges are printed with their source conditions, and optional services are labeled optional. Amounts are not added together; registered-agent and other third-party service fees are excluded.
What this matrix covers
This matrix reports what each jurisdiction charges to file articles, a certificate or a statement of merger where a limited liability company is a party, cited to the official fee schedule or LLC act of that jurisdiction.
The source linked on each row is the primary official document for its fee. When an amount in a row is stated in a different official document, the row names that document after “Also cited” with its pinpoint, a line taken from it carries that document's bracketed number, and the document is linked under Sources. The headline amount is the base filing fee, and the line beneath it names the fee line behind that amount. A charge the source attaches to the filing under a stated condition appears with that condition, and an optional service such as expedited processing or a certified copy appears as optional. Where a source says a listed charge is not currently assessed, the row states that in its own line instead of listing the amount as a charge. Amounts are not added together. Registered-agent and other third-party service fees are outside the matrix. Where no official source checked states an LLC merger fee, the row carries the Unknown badge. It is not a recommendation to merge an entity or to choose a jurisdiction.
How to read this matrix
Each row is a U.S. jurisdiction (50 states plus the District of Columbia). The headline amount is the state filing fee to file articles, a certificate or a statement of merger where an LLC is a party, and the line beneath it names the fee line behind that amount.
A charge the source attaches to the filing under a stated condition appears with that condition, and an optional service such as expedited processing or a certified copy appears as optional; amounts are not added together, and registered-agent or other third-party service fees are outside the matrix. Where a source says a listed charge is not currently assessed, the row states that in its own line instead of listing the amount as a charge. A status note, where present, states a change in the law behind the fee, and an applicability note states that a listed charge does not apply to an LLC merger. A typed unknown (shown as “Unknown”) means no official source checked states an LLC merger fee — a methodological limit, not a confirmed absence of a fee. The source linked on each row is the primary official document for its fee. When an amount in a row is stated in a different official document, the row names that document after “Also cited” with its pinpoint, a line taken from it carries that document's bracketed number, and the document is linked under Sources. The quote behind each further amount appears with the row, in its hover note or under Source details. States can revise fees at any time — confirm against the linked source before filing. Method notes live at /about/methodology/.
Sources
The source linked on each row is the primary official document for its fee.
The additional official documents that rows name after “Also cited” are linked below by state and bracketed number (the source linked on the row itself is always [1]). Per-row primary-source citations live in the matrix's sources.json companion. The full source taxonomy lives at /about/source-registry/.

Frequently asked questions
What does the LLC merger fee cover?
This matrix tracks what each jurisdiction charges to file the document that effects a merger where a limited liability company is a party: articles of merger, a certificate of merger or a statement of merger, depending on the state. The headline amount is the base filing fee. Registered-agent fees, attorney fees and other third-party service fees are outside the matrix.
Why do some rows list more than one amount?
Some fee schedules and statutes attach further charges to the same filing. The matrix shows the base filing fee as the headline amount, lists any charge that applies only under a stated condition together with that condition, and lists optional services such as expedited processing or a certified copy as optional. Where a source says a listed charge is not currently assessed, the row states that in its own line instead of listing the amount as a charge. It does not add these amounts together.
Are these fees current?
Each row links to the state's official source for its fee and quotes the fee line it comes from, with a pinpoint. When an amount is stated in a different official document, the row names that document after “Also cited” and the Sources section links it. States can revise fees at any time — confirm against the linked source before filing.
